Converse Tokyo has revealed its second collaboration with the beloved magical girl series Cardcaptor Sakura, with items going on sale both in-store and online this week. The first crossover between the two came in 2023, with a plethora of unique designs released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Cardcaptor Sakura anime adaptation. Now, those who missed out have some fresh new apparel to look forward to, along with other iconic merch featuring characters like Sakura, Tomoyo, and Eriol, as Clamp's manga series celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Serialized in Nakayoshi magazine from 1996 until 2000, Cardcaptor Sakura remains one of the most beloved magical girl manga series of the 90s, with its 1998 anime adaptation also becoming a smash hit worldwide. The show, called Cardcaptors in North America, aired on television in the early 2000s, though unfortunately, it was heavily edited, cutting major story points and leaving out crucial scenes. Regardless, merchandise flooded US toy stores at the time, and many fondly remember Sakura's adventures to capture the Clow Cards. Now, fans can show their support for the original manga with a stunning new lineup from a familiar brand.

The Problematic Ending of Cardcaptor Sakura

Everyone loves Cardcaptor Sakura, yet the ending of the series created problems for fans of the franchise.

Converse Tokyo Reveals New Cardcaptor Sakura Jackets, T-Shirts, and More

The second Cardcaptor Sakura collab with Converse Tokyo includes designs by artists Kosuke Kawamura and Yuta Okuda, while also highlighting Clamp's original style. The items, which will go on sale May 29, 2026, include cherry blossoms and feathers, both motifs of the series' protagonist Sakura Kinomoto, along with Converse's signature star. For apparel, fans can choose from both short and long-sleeve T-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets. Acrylic stands will also be on sale, along with silkscreen art prints and posters, which will be available as made-to-order items. The Converse Tokyo location in Miyashita Park will also host an exhibition featuring original artwork by Yuta Okuda. Items will be on sale at locations in Ginza, Nagoya, and Umeda on May 23, while preorders will open at other locations and online on the same day. These will run until June 14, 2026.

While both the original manga series and anime adaptation ended in 2000, love for Cardcaptor Sakura is still going strong over a quarter of a century later, thanks in part to continued collaborations and new releases. From 2016 to 2024, a sequel, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, was serialized in Nakayoshi, leading to an anime adaptation by Madhouse in 2018. A sequel was announced in April 2023, which will adapt the final portion of the manga. No release date has yet been confirmed.

The creators of Cardcaptor Sakura, Clamp, remain a beloved piece of manga history. The all-female group consists of one writer and three artists, with the collective putting out hit after hit since the mid-1980s, including Magic Knight Rayearth, X, Chobits, xxxHolic, and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. It's estimated that Clamp has sold over 100 million copies, with Cardcaptor Sakura alone selling over 20 million copies since its release.
