Call of Duty: Warzone has finally brought back Battle Royale Solos, but at the cost of Black Ops Royale Solos. Recent seasons of Call of Duty: Warzone haven't featured a solo way to play the regular Battle Royale mode, but it's here now as part of the recent Season 4 update.

Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 has implemented a host of significant changes, including bringing back Fortune's Keep in the latest map refresh. The map was a favorite for many upon its original release in 2022, so it's good to see it make a remastered return almost four years later. There's also the limited-time Clash game mode, which brings 52v52 gameplay to Call of Duty: Warzone. It's an exciting time for fans of the game, with major content drops still coming regularly.

Why 2026 is Already One of the Saddest Years Ever for Shooter Fans

Though it’s only halfway over, it’s become apparent that 2026 is one of the toughest times to be a fan of first-person and third person shooters.

Call of Duty: Warzone Has Brought Back Battle Royale Solos

In the patch notes for Season 4, it was confirmed that Battle Royale Solos would officially be part of the game mode rotation. In the process, Black Ops Royale Solos has been removed, with Quads now players' only option to tackle this mode throughout Season 4. It's great that players who prefer to play alone will still have a strong option for playing Warzone Season 4, but equally, it's definitely sad that the sacrifice has had to be made.

While the decision to remove Black Ops Royale Solos in favor of Battle Royale Solos may be controversial to some, there is a good reason. The Call of Duty Updates X revealed that Black Ops Royale Solos has "consistently had the lowest player population of any Warzone playlist" since its addition, so the change is being made to "maintain a healthy playlist ecosystem while providing players with the experiences they prefer most." It also highlighted that gamers can still play Black Ops Royale Solos in Call of Duty: Warzone private matches.

It's worth remembering that Call of Duty: Warzone playlist updates usually take place every Thursday, so Black Ops Royale Solos may not be gone for good. However, it's likely that the developer will want Battle Royale Solos to have its own time to shine, so players shouldn't expect immediate changes in the wake of Season 4's release.

Call of Duty: Warzone has been going through some significant changes of late, specifically its plan to stop support for previous-gen consoles. On June 4, new downloads of Call of Duty: Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One were stopped, and in November 2026, following the release of Modern Warfare 4, the game will no longer be playable on last-generation consoles. It's the end of an era for one of the biggest Battle Royale titles on the market.
