Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 was released officially today on May 20, 2026, in Shuesha's V-Jump Issue #7. This new issue of V-Jump carried the latest chapter titled "Used To It" which focused on the aftermath of the war between the shinobi of Konoha and Mamushi. Masashi Kishimoto, the supervisor of the manga, and Mikio Ikemoto, the illustrator and writer, drew a lot of attention to the next generation of ninjas as they finally emerged from a difficult battle largely unscathed. The vast majority of the attention in this chapter went to Boruto Uzumaki, but another fan favorite, Sarada Uchiha, could not be ignored either.
Thanks to Sarada Uchiha, Kishimoto and Ikemoto brought back Sakura Haruno, who is her mother, today. We have been waiting for the return of Sakura Haruno beyond just small panel appearances for 12 years now, and are delighted to see that the authors have finally delivered against all odds. Upon her return, Sakura received tremendous characterization in this month's chapter, which upgraded her overall character arc both as a ninja of Konoha and a mother of Sarada Uchiha.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 Officially Brings Back Sakura Haruno With Added Characterization As A Shinobi And A Mother
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 32, which was officially released on March 20, 2026, saw to it that Sarada suffered tremendous damage after utilizing the power of her Mangekyo Sharingan. Immediately after she unleashed the Jutsu Ohirume to bring down Mamushi once and for all, her eye almost imploded and she passed out. Thanks to Himawari, the surface-level damage was healed immediately, but she remained unconscious until the recent events that unfolded in today's Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34.
In this new chapter, Sakura was seen tending to her very own daughter, and it was quite clear to her that her daughter's vision had gotten worse. Sarada has been relying on the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan excessively, all for the sake of protecting those close to her, because this power is born out of love after all. However, it also comes at a massive price, and that is eventual permanent blindness.
“As I thought, the prescription doesn’t seem right. Your eyesight has clearly worsened compared to before. It’s a risk that inevitably follows the Mangekyō Sharingan. The more you use it, the more your eyesight deteriorates… It depends on the nature of the technique and how it’s used… but in any case; If you keep using it like this, eventually, you’ll go completely blind.” — Sakura Haruno, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 Sneak Peek
While most fans expected Sakura to forbid her daughter from utilizing her power, what Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto did in this chapter took us all by surprise. Instead of having Sakura take stern action against her daughter, she supported her resolve to use this power for those she loves, even if it means her going permanently blind. Sakura is a shinobi first and foremost, and we have seen her journey unfold in the original Naruto manga for over a decade. She knows what kind of resolve it takes to protect those close to her, and that is precisely why she understands what Sarada is doing right now. Instead of acting out of emotions as a parent, Sakura clearly tells Sarada to keep using her power whenever she sees fit, because it is a power that came from her resolve, which she should never betray.
“I won't tell you to stop. Because it's something, a strength that you yourself brought into being when you deemed you needed power in order to do and protect what you wanted to.” — Sakura Haruno, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34
By putting Sakura Haruno in a tremendously conflicting position as both a parent and a Shinobi, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 did wonders for her character. Sakura clearly told her daughter to follow in the footsteps of both her father, Sasuke Uchiha, and her uncle, Itachi Uchiha. Even though the entire world might stand against her and ridicule her, just as they have over the course of the last three years.
Yet, the moment Sakura left in the chapter to tend to another patient, we could see tears trickling down her cheeks. These tears stem from her deep care about her daughter and her well-being, but she still fought back against them because she is emotionally strong and more than level-headed to realize that Sarada is her own person and, as a shinobi, has her own resolve. As a mother, she feels pain, but as a ninja, she respects her daughter's resolve, and this enhances the character of both Sakura and Sarada.
“Just know this Sarada, I'll always believe in you and your dad, no matter what! Besides, I'm used to it! To being lectured about my family.” — Sakura Haruno, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34

How Ikemoto's New Sakura Moment Improved Her Overall Character Arc In Boruto
Sakura Haruno has barely been involved in the Boruto series apart from a couple of appearances here and there. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34 marks her first significant moment in the manga and elevates her character brilliantly. Sakura has always been on the receiving end of criticism from the fans for a multitude of reasons, some of which are rather unfair. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34, Kishimoto and Ikemoto did not put even a single foot wrong by perfectly balancing Sakura's side as a caring and loving mother against a shinobi who understands the resolve of another shinobi.
This chapter elevated her entire character arc to a whole new level. Most of all, we want to see this character arc of Sakura continue further in the upcoming few chapters. As the new arc has now officially begun, we can only hope that Sakura continues evolving as a side character in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. That would be absolutely brilliant, especially in the absence of both Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki.

Sakura's Role In The Future Of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is primarily about the next generation of ninjas. Expecting Sakura on the front lines and engaging in major battles is not an expectation that any of us fans should have. However, Sakura can still be developed as a side character brilliantly in this manga moving forward. She has more than enough strength to fight against top-tier enemies and act as support, allowing for her own daughter and the other young generation ninjas to rise to the very top.
In the absence of Naruto and Sasuke, Sakura can fulfill this role beautifully, especially in the upcoming arc, in which it has been officially teased that Code will make a move to abduct Sarada Uchiha in an attempt to lure out Boruto. As Sarada's mother, Sakura should be the one leading the mission to rescue her daughter from the very front. This will not only grant her abilities to engage in high-level combat but also showcase how dearly she loves her daughter and stands as a powerful parental figure in the new arc.
“Code runs off after deciding he has little chance of winning against you. Therefore, he goes after Sarada. He will take her to the Shinju as a bargaining chip, knowing that she can be used as bait to lure you out.” — Kashin Koji explaining Sarada's role in the new Boruto Arc in Two Blue Vortex Chapter #34
The new arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, which officially began on May 20, 2026, is likely to continue developing the character of Sakura Haruno on the sidelines. Fans should not expect her to take the center stage because, at the end of the day, her own story is over and this is the story of her daughter and her compatriots. Still, we are absolutely delighted to see an old Naruto character getting this level of attention in Two Blue Vortex and hope that it continues going down the line as well.
