After 24 Years, Boruto Powers Up The Uchiha Mangekyo Sharingan

The Mangekyo Sharingan was first officially introduced in Naruto Chapter 142 through the character of Itachi Uchiha back on October 28, 2002, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #46. This powerful eye ability has grown significantly in terms of narrative importance since then and has established itself as one of the very finest in the entire series.

Now, nearly 24 years later, the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan has officially been upgraded in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, with further evolutions coming in the new arc that officially began on May 20, 2026. Thanks to the character of Sarada Uchiha, who wields the incredible ability of Ohirume Mangekyo Sharingan, the Boruto series is making this eye deadlier than ever before and granting it more overpowered abilities than ever in the process.

Sarada Uchiha's Ohirume Had Officially Upgraded The Mangekyo Sharingan's Firepower

While the Mangekyo Sharingan stood at the top as one of the most incredibly powerful abilities to be introduced in the Naruto series, over the years, its importance and strength started to pale in comparison to all the other powers that were introduced into the world at the time. For instance, upon the introduction of the Rinnegan, the Mangekyo Sharingan started losing its importance, and by the time of the 4th Great Ninja War, it was practically obsolete, with even powers such as the Susanoo being practically useless against the likes of Ten-Tails Jinchuriki or Kaguya Otsutsuki. Thankfully, the Boruto series has done great work to fix this major flaw from the Naruto series. In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 20, which was released officially on March 20, 2025, in V-Jump Issue #5, Sarada Uchiha officially tapped into the power of her Mangekyo Sharingan and used Ohirume. This unique Mangekyo Sharingan ability has finally scaled up the eye to a whole new level, making it rival the strongest powers that exist in the entire world.

Sarada's Ohirume, which made its debut in V-Jump Issue #5 on May 20, 2025, holds the power to produce and manipulate black holes. With this powerful ocular jutsu, Sarada can create up to four powerful black holes, the size of which she can freely control. At the same time, she can easily pick what gets targeted by the black hole and who gets avoided, granting her full control over the gravity of this technique. Coming over to the gravity itself, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapters 21 and 30 showcased its immense firepower, strong enough to take down Otsutsuki-level enemies. Sarada Uchiha took down Shinju Ryu in Boruto: Blue Vortex chapter 21, which was released in V JUMP Issue #6 on June 20, 2025, in a single shot.

Later down the line, in the Mamushi arc, Sarada utilized this power once again and took down around 20 of Mamushi's clones in one fell swoop. Keeping in mind that each clone of Mamushi is nearly as strong as an Otsutsuki in the Boruto series, Sarada's overall capabilities are immense at this point in time. This goes to show that the Mangekyo Sharingan is once again among the top powers and has received a massive upgrade in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Why Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan Surpasses Sasuke's Rinnegan

While Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan possesses immense strength, its full potential can only be understood upon a direct comparison with Sasuke's Rinnegan. Despite the latter ability being significantly more special, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan actually has the capabilities of matching it in combat and even overwhelming it in terms of offensive output.

Sasuke's special ability when it comes to the Rinnegan is Amenotejikara, which allows him to swap places with anything within a certain radius. This is an interesting supplementary ability, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't all that powerful. Meanwhile, Sarada's ability is so strong that it can essentially crush the likes of the Otsutsuki, provided it doesn't get absorbed. Naturally, Sasuke's Rinnegan has other Six Paths powers as well, but they have been cut out of the Boruto series, given that he never utilizes them anyway.

Meanwhile, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan still has one ability that remains unexplored at the moment, and on top of that, it has a mighty Susano'o to unveil as well, which is sure to have incredibly powerful abilities of its own. All things considered, Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan is so strong that it practically compares to the Rinnegan abilities in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex series.

Sarada's Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan Holds The Potential To Be The Most Overpowered Dojutsu In Boruto

While Sarada's Mangekyo Sharingan is immensely powerful, it also comes with a significant drawback, and that is blindness. Every Mangekyo Sharingan blinds the user over time, but as confirmed by Sakura Haruno in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 34, the rate of blindness depends upon the nature of the technique and how it is utilized. Sarada's technique is incredibly overpowered when it comes to the Mangekyo Sharingan, and thus, it blinds her much faster than any other user. In fact, Sarada has only utilized her Mangekyo Sharingan on three different occasions, yet she has already lost a significant portion of her vision, which goes to show that this power is not sustainable in the grand scheme of things.

The only way that Sarada can make use of her eyes properly is by making her Mangekyo Sharingan eternal. A direct pathway to Sarada achieving this has not been provided in the series. However, in time, one way or another, she is going to gain access to an eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. When that happens, Sarada's ocular powers are going to grow even further, and she is going to reach an even higher level of strength, likely equal to the likes of Hidari or Jura and rivaling the likes of Momoshiki and Ishiki Otsutsuki. The Mangekyo Sharingan is more overpowered than ever before in the Boruto series, and that is something that we are glad to see. Hopefully, Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto will continue to develop this ocular jutsu even further and make it more overpowered so that Sarada can keep rivaling the power levels of Boruto and Kawaki.
