After 11 years of serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump GIGA, Black Clover by Yuki Tabata has officially ended after over a decade of serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump GIGA. Over the years, Black Clover cemented itself as a classic magical shonen, and in big parts that's thanks to its captivating cast of characters. The main cast in Black Clover is the Black Bulls, but the story is specifically centered around Asta, Noelle, and Yuno.
As with many shonen series, the biggest ship in Black Clover was between the main male protagonist and the heroine of the story. In this case, it was Asta and Noelle. Fans were looking forward to seeing them get together at the end, just like many other couples officially confirmed in Chapter 392 of the manga, which dropped on Manga Plus officially on May 1, 2926. But, Tabata has dropped the ball on the romantic plotline between the two and revealed that despite years of buildup, they're still not a couple. That said, there is still some hope for this ship in the future despite all of this.

Black Clover Chapter 392 Officially Confirms Asta And Noelle Are Not A Couple Yet
Black Clover just reached its conclusion on May 1st, 2026, with its final chapter 392. This series has been serializing in Jump GIGA for a couple of years now, and in the latest issue of this seasonal magazine, the final batch of chapters was released. This batch of chapters was highly anticipated, and according to Jump GIGA, there were a lot of exciting plot points, such as the battle for the title of Wizard King, that were to finally be settled.
Beyond that, fans were also curious about the character interactions, specifically couples and romance. Black Clover's most popular ship for years has been that of Asta and Noelle Silva. Given that Noelle Silva was the main heroine of Black Clover and that she and Asta often fought together, side by side, it was evident that they were a fan favorite couple.
Noelle’s feelings for Asta were also canonically present from very early on in the plot of Black Clover. Her love towards Asta was quite obvious, especially as she had her fair share of blushing and racing moments towards him. While some fans were certain the two would end up together in chapter 392, Yuki Tabata has decided that the time to resolve this plotline isn't right now. Towards the end of the final chapter of Black Clover, Asta and Noelle still hadn't ended up together, despite there being a timeskip. So far, they cannot officially be called a couple, which leaves a sour taste in our mouths, especially after years of teasing by the author.
I was waiting until his work as the Wizard King calmed down, but our fight begins now, Mimosa! — Noelle Silva, Black Clover Chapter 392
That said, this doesn't mean that Noelle lost her feelings for Asta, or that the latter won't reciprocate. At the end of Black Clover, Noelle Silva and Mimosa Vermillion decide that they will have a romance battle for the heart of Asta. This conclusion was widely disliked by fans, as it leaves everything floating in the air and makes it seem like Tabata simply wanted to avoid backlash from shippers for choosing one shop and casting away the other.

How Yuki Tabata Can Resolve The Romance Triangle in Black Clover’s Final Volume
The main romance of Black Clover being turned into a love triangle was a controversial decision, especially in the final chapter of such a big shonen series. Tabata set up a lot of romance for Asta, both with Noelle and Mimosa, and seeing both these plotlines unresolved is unsurprisingly upsetting for all those who have invested hours into the story, hoping for a conclusion. This conclusion also undermines Tabata’s female cast and waters down their characters to potential love interests.
With that being said, there might still be a saving grace for the Black Clover series when it comes to the final romantic couple for Asta. While the story itself is over, there is a big chance of it getting an extra chapter, or at least some bonus content with the volume release. Based on examples set by other shonen series like My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, bonus content is definitely in the books and highly anticipated by fans. If Yuki Tabata does plan for it, then it'll be officially released on August 4 2026, along with the release of Black Clover Volume 38.
This extra chapter could finally resolve this love triangle and put to rest who Asta will end up with. Some fans would love Asta to end with Noelle, while others prefer Mimosa as the final pair. Either way, Tabata will undoubtedly face some backlash for his choice due to the nature of shipping culture. But, at the very least, fans get a proper conclusion.
