The 9K38 Igla is a man portable air defense system available to the Engineer class in Battlefield 6, and players can unlock it in Season 3 by completing a Season Catch-Up challenge involving SMGs and vehicles. Getting the Igla in BF6 is ridiculously easy, but the subsequent challenge that involves actually using the Igla is a completely different story.
The BF6 Igla challenge for unlocking the VCR-2 will have players using the said launcher to take down at least five enemy aircraft, but due to an apparent bug and the overall difficulty of destroying a live aircraft using infantry weapons, it's no surprise that many players find this challenge difficult, if not infuriating.
How to Complete All Support Class Challenges in Battlefield 6
The Support class is the backbone of most Battlefield 6 squads, and you'll need to complete some challenges to unlock its best equipment.
How to Unlock the Igla in Battlefield 6
To get the 9K38 Igla in BF6, all you need to do is complete the following objectives:
- Get 30 Kills/Assists with SMGs
- Earn 2500 score using a vehicle
You can knock both of these objectives out just by playing the game normally. The fastest way to complete most challenges is to just load into a Casual Breakthrough match and start slaughtering bots there. However, since BF6's Casual Breakthrough is limited to only a few maps, you might not always get a map that gives you access to vehicles. Even if you go to any of the regular playlists, this challenge should take no time at all to complete, as long as you're performing well enough.
BF6 Igla Challenge Guide
Now for the hard part: to unlock the VCR-2 in BF6, you need to use the Igla launcher to take down five different enemy aircraft. This sounds simple on paper, but there are a few problems:
- While the game says you need to destroy or support in destroying aircraft, assists don't seem to count for this challenge.
- Destroying empty aircraft doesn't seem to count either. If your missile hits a helicopter/jet that its pilot recently abandoned, you won't get any credit.
- Destroying aircraft with MANPADs in BF6 is difficult in general, as any experienced pilot will know how to use flares, take cover, or get below radar range where lock-ons are mostly impossible.
The best way to do the BF6 Igla challenge is to play Conquest on either Railway to Golmud or Blackwell Fields, and stay relatively close to your team's Anti-Air Vehicle or other Engineers who are on AA duty. I personally completed this challenge on Golmud by sitting somewhere on the poppy fields north of the E flag.
If you want the best chance of scoring an aircraft kill using the Igla, keep the following tips in mind:
- Your missile can lock onto other targets as long as it's still in the air. If you fire a shot, and the enemy pilot pops flares, you still have a chance to hit your target as long as you keep your scope on them (provided the missile doesn't explode to the flares themselves).
- Provide cover for friendly aircraft. Pay attention to dogfights and helicopter battles, then once one of the enemy pilots pops their flares, fire your Igla at them for a guaranteed hit. Keep shooting until your target is destroyed, or until they fly out of range.
- Request for SOFLAM support. Recon players on your team can use or deploy Laser Designator gadgets that can paint enemy vehicles for you. This will allow you to target aircraft that are outside of your usual range.
