Hate The Sequels? These Star Wars Games Do It Better
For fans who don't take Disney's sequels as canon, these Star Wars games offer the most connections in themes and events to the original trilogy.
The Best Star Wars Games for Mandalorian Lore
There are a great number of Star Wars games on the market, but very few dive into the rich lore of the Mandalorians. Luckily, we have compiled a list of the best games you should jump into if you want to explore the lore of the Mandalorians further:
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords
- Star Wars: The Old Republic
- Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
- Star Wars: Empire at War - Forces of Corruption Expansion
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
If you are looking for a game to jump into that offers some light Mandalorian lore, then you can simply pick up Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Without delving too much into spoiler territory, the game takes place in the aftermath of the Mandalorian Wars, a central conflict between the Mandalorians and the Jedi.
It is in Knights of the Old Republic where much of the Mandalorians’ legacy is presented, and while you do not play directly as a Mandalorian, the aftermath of the war itself heavily shapes the world you explore in the game. The Mandalorian show also takes inspiration from Legends material that the game draws from, like the Mandalorians being a culture rather than a race, items featured in the game such as Krayt Dragon Pearls, and a few key locations.

While Knights of the Old Republic touches upon one of the key conflicts in Mandalorian lore, the Mandalorians themselves have a larger presence in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords. Again, while players do not get to play as a Mandalorian and instead take the role of a Jedi, they are present throughout the world, often as allies and enemies in the aftermath of the Mandalorian Wars.
In Knights of the Old Republic 2, players can get a deeper insight into Mandalorian culture through NPC dialogue and interactions, most notably through the character Canderous Ordo, who now serves as Mandalore the Preserver and a key leader of the Mandalorian clans. Throughout the game, players also get to see the Mandalorians rebuilding following the war.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Up next is Star Wars: The Old Republic, an MMORPG that is set 300 years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. While the game itself centers mostly on the conflict between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, Mandalorians play a minor role, with the group split into factions between both sides.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is currently one of the only games where players get to experience what is like being a Mandalorian via the Bounty Hunter class, which treats players to the Bounty Hunter storyline. Here you get to see your character work closely alongside Mandalorians and rise through the ranks as a feared warrior within the Empire. Later expansions also dive deep into Mandalorian lore, such as the Legacy of the Sith, Knights of the Fallen Empire, Knights of the Eternal Throne, and Onslaught.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter directly ties to the prequels, and while it is part of the Legends canon, which is not explicitly canon to the universe of the Star Wars movies and shows, it is still an interesting play. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter follows the story of Jango Fett before Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and dives heavily into why he was selected for the creation of the Clone Army, which, as many fans will know, directly ties into the fall of the Galactic Republic in Episode III.
Those that are only familiar with the movies may have written off the fact that Jango Fett is associated with the Mandalorian. However, in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, it explores Jango’s direct ties to the Mandalorians through his rivalry with the game’s main antagonist, Montross. In Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, players also get first-hand experience of just how a bounty hunter like Jango Fett would operate in combat, from using an array of gadgets like the Mandalorian Jetpack, to his trusty blasters and flamethrower. In short, for those that want the closest thing to playing as a Mandalorian, then Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is the game for you.

Last up is Star Wars: Empire at War, a real-time strategy game which sees players control different factions during the original trilogy. While the game is incredibly light when it comes to Mandalorian lore, there are some loose tie-ins through the Forces of Corruption expansion via the Zann Consortium, a third playable faction alongside the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance.
Mandalorians themselves are not present in the expansion. However, the Zann Consortium faction does incorporate some stolen Mandalorian tech in their units, such as the Keldabe-class battleship, along with bounty hunter-style units. In Forces of Corruption, players also get to play directly on Mandalore, serving as one of the many conquest worlds.
