They can not only select Spider-Man himself but also many of his most iconic allies and enemies from the comics, including Venom, Black Cat, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Scorpion, Iron Fist, Rhino, Lizard, and many more. In this game, players take control of four different Spider-People: The Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Man 2099, all of whom get to explore their own levels, boasting unique visual styles and inhabited by bizarre reinterpretations of their classic comic book villains. On top of that, every Spidey has his own fighting style, keeping gameplay interesting and diverse. Shattered Dimensions is a perfect iteration of the classic Spider-Verse concept, and it’s both a shame and quite odd that there have never been any attempts at making a modern follow-up, especially after the recent Spider-Verse movies blew up in popularity.

At first glance, it may seem like Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ only real flaw is its short duration, as it’s significantly shorter than its predecessor and can feel like a glorified PS5 tech demo at times. Oddly enough, this actually ends up working to the game’s benefit. It is a concise but greatly enjoyable Spider-Man adventure that can be completed in an afternoon or two.

Insomniac Games did an excellent job at making Miles’ gameplay feel distinct from Peter’s, thanks to the inclusion of his exclusive superpowers like his Venom Touch, which greatly enhances the combat, or his invisibility, which makes stealth segments a lot more manageable. Additionally, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales features beautiful graphics, smooth web-swinging mechanics, a vast array of side missions, and an emotional storyline that shows why Miles deserves the title of Spider-Man while tugging at the heartstrings.

4 Marvel's Spider-Man 2

An Incredible Sequel With Two Playable Spider-Men

As one would expect from an AAA sequel like this one, Insomniac took everything that had made Marvel's Spider-Man and Miles Morales so successful and multiplied it to create the definitive Spider-Man experience. While some players have their issues with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (mainly due to some of its story elements and characterization), it’s impossible to deny that this is a modern masterpiece that deserves to be grouped with some of the web-swinging hero’s best video game offerings.

The main selling point of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is its two-character system, which allows players to control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales and seamlessly swap between them with the press of a button. Needless to say, both Spider-Men have their own unique mechanics to differentiate themselves, with Miles once again wielding his Venom Power and invisibility from his own game and Peter wearing the infamous Black Suit that allows him to unleash even more destruction onto his enemies. Additionally, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 features absolutely stunning graphics, is jam-packed with content, and boasts a collection of high-octane and challenging boss fights against near-perfect adaptations of classic villains (especially Kraven the Hunter and the Lizard).

3 Ultimate Spider-Man

The Most “Comic Book-y” Spider-Man Game Ever Made

Even though most Spider-Man games released after the original Sam Raimi movies tend to have more realistic art styles and grounded stories, 2005’s Ultimate Spider-Man is a notorious exception. That immediately becomes evident when looking at its cel-shaded art style. This game is vibrant and colorful, which is why it feels like a love letter to the beloved comic book it’s based on.

If Ultimate Spider-Man were just a game with timeless cel-shaded graphics in which players can control Spidey in an open-world setting, it would already be considered perfect, but to make things even better, it also has segments in which Venom is playable, making the gameplay even more entertaining and brutal in the process. Not only is Ultimate Spider-Man another excellent addition to the character’s gaming repertoire, but it’s also his most underrated video game so far, and more people should experience it.
