However, as is the case with any good RPG, when things do go wrong, the outcomes can often be some of the most interesting in the entire game, despite being seemingly bad to begin with. It's all about conversations and deciding exactly how to play certain encounters, and assuming players get hooked for the first time, then they are almost certain to run it back with a completely different set of choices the next time around.

Banquet For Fools is a beautiful and eerie party-based RPG that sends players to the islands of Invimona in order to solve a mystery. The world is all about interactivity, and players will find themselves posed with many different puzzles, both inside and outside of combat, many of which require a huge amount of brain power to even put a dent in.

The combat revolves around making active decisions in the middle of the fight about what abilities to use and where best to strike; if players aren't careful, they can very quickly be sent packing. And, when they are done plundering and murdering their enemies, they are more than welcome to visit the locals, discovering new clues and a few quests that can give them some pretty helpful pieces of loot to help them later on in this unsettling yet deeply engaging RPG.

Aether & Iron

Turn-based RPGs take on lots of different forms, but Aether & Iron is looking to defy those expectations even further, introducing the world to a strategic, vehicular style of combat that is truly unlike anything else in the space. As they drive along the neon highways, players will not only engage in some pretty intense car chases, but they will also have a chance to converse on the go, unravelling secrets behind the wheel and figuring out exactly how deep the dark roots below the city seem to run.

Described as a noir adventure above the clouds, stylistically, the game is pretty stellar, having the perfect combination of 30s fashion and futuristic tech to give it a unique flavour that many players won't have experienced before. And, to make things even better, in the audio department, there are over 100 voiced NPCs to meet and speak with, alongside an exceptional soundtrack by some Grammy-level composers, ensuring that the gameplay experience sounds just as good as it looks.

Escape from Ever After plays with expectations, presenting a world that actively questions its own logic.
