LEGO is a staple of life. The company has been around for more than 70 years, establishing its bricks as a childhood fixture for pretty much every generation that is still ongoing today. Although not quite as old, video games have accomplished the same, and the medium's popularity has been on an upward trajectory for basically two decades. It has never been easier to become a gamer or, really, a creative LEGO builder; consequently, video game LEGO sets are not only plentiful but also a guaranteed part of life.
You don't need to spend a fortune to pick up a cute or cool LEGO minifig or even a small set; however, if you want the really ambitious and eye-catching ones, be prepared to open your wallet as wide as possible. In some cases, a video game LEGO set costs way more than the product it is based on, and that is taking into account modern AAA prices (without considering microtransactions, because not even LEGO can compete with that absurdity).
Let's take a look at a few gorgeous gaming LEGO sets that look and are expensive, although they might be worth the money. I will include a couple of upcoming 2026 LEGO sets, just to provide an idea of what is to come.

Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise Pokemon LEGO Set

Famously, LEGO has entered a partnership with Pokemon that will run throughout 2026, delivering quite a few impressive sets and figurines along the way. February 27 marks the start of this relationship, with fans being able to purchase a Pikachu and Poke Ball set or a standalone Eevee, which cost $199.99 and $99.99, respectively. Let me just say that I am grateful that Eevee is my favorite base Pokemon from Generation 1.
As cool as both of those upcoming releases are, they are not the partnership's first BIG masterpiece, which is undeniably the Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise set. Although not the most expensive product on the official store, this LEGO set is only surpassed by a few options, including two Star Wars creations that have even more pieces. Bringing to life Gen 1's legendary starters, this set is detailed, vibrant, and flexible. If somebody wants, they could separate Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise from each other, using them as standalone big-figs instead.
PAC-MAN Arcade Cabinet LEGO Set

Now, here is a LEGO set that caters to an old-school heart. Rather than just stick to a PAC-MAN figurine, LEGO opted to go the distance by including a full-blown arcade machine with a chase mechanism that allows you to simulate the gameplay (but not actually play the game, even though that would have been mindblowing). This set goes far beyond the basics, showing an eye for detail and a love for the legendary video game stalwart.
While the cabinet is definitely the main attraction, the set also comes with a minifigure scene that shows a character playing the game at an arcade, along with a standalone close-up of PAC-MAN, Blinky, and Clyde. The latter mini-figs can change direction, allowing Blinky and Clyde to enter a state of panic if PAC-MAN sees them.
Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle Zelda LEGO Set

Time for some The Legend of Zelda goodness. This Ocarina of Time LEGO set is not the franchise's most expensive release, as that would go to the upcoming Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 BOTW juggernaut; however, I went with this one as it depicts such an iconic battle in gaming history. More so than any other set in this article, this release is designed to be adjustable, allowing you to change the layout of the characters and scenery so you can depict either the pre-battle stage with Ganondorf or fast-forward to when Link and Princess Zelda face off against Ganon.
While not containing a particularly expansive backdrop, this Zelda set shines in its figurines and adaptability, with Ganon's big-fig being worth the price of admission on its own. The castle ruins fit the theme without overwhelming the surrounding scene, and the required building is a bit less demanding than the previous two highlighted sets. If you are a Zelda fan and have a specific connection to the franchise's most important game, this set could look great on a shelf.
Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi LEGO Set

Revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, the Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi LEGO set is noteworthy for a few reasons. Firstly, it has a 2D look, a design used to pay respect to the source material's legacy. Secondly, this LEGO Super Mario set is designed for adults, and these types of products make up a small percentage of the 150+ releases this partnership has produced since 2020.
This set will only be available until July 2026, so pick it up while you have a chance (if you are interested).
Lastly, this set is absurdly tall at 40 cm, which is way higher than any of the other releases highlighted in this article. Just for comparison, the LEGO Pokemon set is only 23 cm high. Besides the cool aesthetic courtesy of the pixelated characters, this set offers some interactivity courtesy of a handle that makes it seem like Yoshi is running. There is even a dial that lets Yoshi pop his tongue out, changing his expression.
Fortnite Battle Bus With Characters LEGO Set

Well, of course, Fortnite has a couple of LEGO sets. The most expensive is the Mecha Team Leader, which requires $249.99; however, the Battle Bus is far more affordable, and it immortalizes arguably the game's most iconic imagery. Putting aside a brief period that saw players surf their way into matches, the Battle Bus has been a fixture of the battle royale portion of Fortnite, and this model recreates it with style and detail.
Besides the bus and its parachute, this set also comes with 9 figurines of some of the most identifiable (license-free) skins, including a Peely, Bomber, and Meowscles. The minifigs can be placed in the bus, but you can also just use them separately if you want to show them off more directly.
