The VCR-2 is one of the fastest-killing weapons in Battlefield 6. This rifle was first introduced in Season 2, where it was locked behind battle pass progression. Now, players can unlock this by completing a Season 2 Catch-Up Hardware challenge that involves using shoulder-mounted missile launchers. The challenge to unlock the VCR-2 in BF6 is fairly simple, but while it's not exactly hard, it will demand a fair bit of patience.

Light machine guns are incredibly strong in Battlefield 6, and you can complete Bullet Storm challenges to unlock the best ones early.

To get this weapon, you need to complete the following objectives after you get the 9K38 Igla Launcher in BF6:

  1. Deal 3000 damage to vehicles with shoulder-launched missiles
  2. Destroy or assist in destroying 5 aircraft using the 9K38 Igla

The first objective is easy enough: just pick your favorite rocket launcher for the Engineer class, then hunt down all the enemy ground vehicles you can find. You'll finish this challenge just by playing the game normally as an Engineer, but the second part of the challenge is where things get tricky.

Taking down enemy aircraft in BF6 is a lot harder than it sounds, especially since pilots can avoid getting hit by lock-on launchers like the 9K38 Igla by popping flares or by going below or beyond radar range. However, the Igla can work around this issue due to its ability to reacquire targets.

How to Use the Igla

If you didn't know, you can lock onto aircraft using the Igla again even after its first missile misses its initial target, provided that the missile itself is still in the air, of course. You'll notice that when you fire a missile with this weapon, you sometimes won't be able to reload immediately — this means that your original missile is still somewhere on the battlefield.

If this is the case, aim down the Igla's sights again, and try locking onto an enemy jet or helicopter. You should be able to lock onto it, and if you can stay on-target for a while, your original missile will eventually hit its mark.

When I was attempting this challenge, I exclusively played Conquest on Railway to Golmud. This map has a lot of air vehicles available for both teams, so you'll have more chances to shoot at something. I sat down next to my team's AA tank and waited for it to fire its missiles at someone. Once the enemy pilot used their flares, I'd immediately follow up with an Igla missile. This often results in a hit, and if the enemy aircraft's health is low enough, it usually nets a kill for the challenge's sake.

The best targets to shoot at are enemy jets and helicopters that are actively engaging your team's pilots.

It took me three whole matches of just launching rockets at enemy pilots to unlock the VCR-2 in BF6. Progress tracking for the challenge was bugged during the time I tried doing it; assists didn't count for the challenge, and destroying aircraft that pilots had bailed out of didn't count either. This should hopefully be fixed by now, but if not, prepare for an infuriating time.

If you run out of Igla missiles, just redeploy and find another spot to shoot from. You'll essentially be draining your team's tickets by doing this, but at least you're keeping the skies clear by zoning out enemy pilots, if not outright taking them out.
