Assault Rifles are the go-to weapons for players who want to cover most engagement ranges in Battlefield 6 without compromising the damage they deal over medium-long distances. Most of the weapons in this category are designed for shootouts between the 20 and 50 meter marks, though some of them extend to the extreme ends of the range spectrum, capable of either close-quarters dominance or supreme accuracy over long range. In this guide, we'll go over all the best Assault Rifles in BF6 to help you get a better idea of which one excels in what scenario.

Since weapons in Battlefield 6 are balanced around intended engagement distances, I've decided to separate the Assault Rifles into three brackets based on what range they excel at. This will make comparing weapons easier while giving you a better look at the bigger picture overall.
M16A4
When the M16A4 was added in BF6 Season 3, it immediately reclaimed its spot from Battlefield 3 as the best Assault Rifle in the game, not because of its raw TTK values, but because of the sheer versatility of it. This rifle is reliable at all ranges, and while it's not as good past the 40-meter mark compared to some other guns on this list, it's still quite a powerhouse, especially at close-medium range.
It takes four bullets to kill someone with body hits with the M16A4 at up to 20 meters, and it'll take six shots to down a player at up to 75 meters. Combine this with the weapon's 771 RPM fire rate and relatively low recoil, and you've got yourself a gun that's more than capable of competently standing up against pretty much every other primary weapon in the game.
The M16A4 is a burst-fire weapon by default, but it can be turned into a fully-automatic one once players unlock the A3 Receiver attachment from it.
B36A4
Think of the B36A4 as a more relaxed version of the M16A4. Both weapons have the same damage profile, but the B36A4 has a slightly slower fire rate and considerably better recoil. This rifle doesn't bounce around as much as the M16A4 during automatic fire, making it the better choice for players who want something a bit easier to use (despite the slight recoil nerf to it in Season 3).
The B36A4 is one of those Assault Rifles in BF6 that's just hard to find any major faults in. It's perfectly average in all regards, and while you'll definitely get outgunned by players using more specialized weapons, the B36A4 can definitely still win against them if you play your cards right.
M433
The M433 is the starting Assault Rifle in BF6, and despite being every rookie's first gun, it's more than capable of competing with everything else up to the 50-meter mark. Unlike the previous two weapons, this one shreds in CQB thanks to its 830 RPM fire rate and 25-damage bullets that don't drop off until the 21-meter range.
Using the M433 at medium range (i.e. anywhere beyond 20 meters) is still absolutely doable with the right build, but due to the rifle's more erratic recoil pattern that's exacerbated by its high fire rate, players will need to start burst firing if they want to hit their targets reliably from afar.
NVO-228E
The NVO has managed to avoid getting nerfed in Season 3. It retained many of the pros and cons it had in previous seasons, and because of that, I can safely say that the weapon is in a pretty good spot. Like the M433, the NVO favors very close-ranged fights thanks to its ability to drop someone with three shots to the chest. It's no slouch in medium range either, though its slower fire rate and moderate-high bloom does hurt its ability to take out other players by the 40-meter mark.
Just keep in mind that the NVO's three-shot-kill range doesn't extend past 8 meters, so you'll have to be very aggressive if you want to use this weapon's maximum potential.
Kord 6P67
The Kord is the opposite of the NVO in terms of preferred range; this gun has the lowest damage-per-bullet value (20) out of all Assault Rifles, but it compensates for that by having very low recoil and a very high fire rate (900 RPM). Because of these traits, the Kord is best suited for medium-range encounters. In such cases, other weapons will start missing or have to fire in bursts to be accurate. Meanwhile, the Kord can just lay down a stream of bullets that are all but guaranteed to hit if its user is skilled enough.
Despite its penchant for mid-ranged fights, the Kord can still tackle CQB encounters fairly well, but if you find yourself staring down the barrel of any of the weapons mentioned above, you're probably going to lose.

TR-7
The TR-7 is arguably the superior weapon when it comes to the CQB Assault Rifle bracket. This gun deals 33 damage up to 20 meters, which means targets will go down in just three chest hits. The downside of this is that the TR-7 kicks extremely hard; forget about mules, this rifle kicks like a full-blown horse even with attachments, and Season 3 saw its recoil become even stronger, effectively neutering it for mid-range combat.
Don't get me wrong, the TR-7 is very effective in the right hands, and I'll even say that this is the absolute best Assault Rifle in BF6 for close range, but to get the most out of it, you need to dedicate yourself to playing CQB only, which is going to be a problem when you're on big maps like Railway to Golmud.
VCR-2
The VCR-2 used to be the most dominant Assault Rifle in BF6, but since its nerf in Season 3, using it has become agonizing in comparison. This gun has the worst-feeling shooting experience in the game so far, and while it will still chew people up at about the same pace as the TR-7, its wild and unpredictable recoil pattern means that hitting anyone beyond 20 meters (or any target in good cover) is going to be extremely difficult.
AK4D
It's best to think of the AK4D as a mellowed-down version of the TR-7, much like how the B36A4 is to the M16A4. This battle rifle is the fourth fastest-killing Assault Rifle in CQB thanks to its 20-meter long three-shot-kill range, and beyond that, it will take down targets with just four shots to the chest up to 75 meters. The AK4D's steady fire rate more than makes up for the gun's hard kick, so staying on-target shouldn't be much of an issue.
There's still the matter of bloom, though, and the AK4D has tons of it, so if you want to hit targets at long range with this gun, fire in two-shot bursts only.
SOR-556
The SOR-556 is an extremely accurate Assault Rifle with minimal recoil, even lower than that of the Kord. Among the three long-ranged ARs in this bracket, it has the best accuracy during sustained fire, making it the perfect pick for players who just want to sit back and plink at people from a distance.
However, the SOR-556's sluggish fire rate makes it one of the slowest-killing guns in the entire game. It will almost always lose in a direct, close-quarters fight against a player with decent aim, and it may even lose against guns like the Kord in longer ranges. I'd only recommend using this weapon if you're looking for something that takes very little effort to use, and even then, you'll have to adapt a stealthy playstyle and only pick fights against players who have no idea where you are.
L85A3
The L85A3 is the middle-ground between the SOR-556 and AK4D. It's perfectly fine for what it is, but it has neither of the saving graces that the two aforementioned weapons have. The L85A3 is simply decent across the board, though I'm not entirely sure if that's enough to make it truly competitive.
Success with the L85A3 hinges on your personal accuracy as well as the state of the battlefield itself, and much like the SOR-556, you won't be winning any direct gunfights using this rifle. It can put in some serious work, and often times, it will feel better than the SOR-556 because of its faster time-to-kill, but it's hard to find a use-case for this weapon when the B36A4 exists.
