Pablo Sanchez. Kiesha Phillips. Kenny Kawaguchi. All legendary names in the Backyard Sports arena that we all knew and loved throughout our childhoods. Names that etched themselves in baseball history, alongside iconic personalities like Babe Ruth and Pete Rose. Now, after 20+ years of hiding in the most nostalgic corners of our memories, Backyard Baseball is making a comeback.
In a move that has not seen this much hype since MJ returned to basketball, Backyard Baseball is set to launch on July 9, 2026, with a complete visual overhaul and a host of new game modes and features for the kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy together. Before we can sink our teeth into the full release, however, the devs are gifting us with a Steam demo that'll give us a much-needed appetizer of what is to come.

Backyard Baseball Launches A Demo Ahead of Full Release
In preparation for its release in Summer on PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch 2, Backyard Baseball has just dropped a demo today, on April 9, 2026, for the most nostalgic and eager fans to try out. The demo was recently on display at this year’s PAX East event, where it was awarded a “Best in Show” acknowledgement and received an overwhelmingly positive reception from gamers and critics alike. The preview includes a brand-new game mode, called Backyard Derby, and three playable characters in Kiesha Phillips, Kenny Kawaguchi, and the GOAT Pablo Sanchez.
“Backyard Derby is a first look at how we’re pushing Backyard Baseball forward. It’s faster, more competitive, and designed to keep players coming back, with pick-up-and-play co-op at its core, all grounded in the character-forward charm fans grew up with,” Chris Waters, Chief Product Officer, Playground Productions.
The new game mode pits players against Mr. Clanky, the pitching robot, in a test to see how many home runs you can hit in the allocated time. The demo gameplay will take place in the iconic Steele Stadium, with a new night mode option, and will be available to play solo or in couch co-op mode.
