After helping Hercules repair Phil’s urn in The Grecian Urn, there’s another mystery waiting for you in Disney Dreamlight Valley. This time, some of the fish have mysteriously lost their color!
Naturally, Hercules wants to get to the bottom of it, and you will be helping him figure out what’s going on in the Aquatic Musings quest, which we have a step-by-step walkthrough for below.

How to Unlock the Aquatic Musings Quest in Dreamlight Valley
Before you can start Aquatic Musings, there are a couple of requirements to take care of first:
- Reach friendship level four with Hercules. The quickest way to do that is by giving him his favorite gifts.
- You’ll also need to have completed The Grecian Urn quest (which we have a guide for here).
Once both requirements are out of the way, you can talk to Hercules and begin the next part of his story!
Aquatic Musings Quest Walkthrough in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Hercules will tell you that some strange fish have appeared near the Cursed Cave on Dazzle Beach, and you will be tasked with heading to the location to check them out:
Catch Grayscale Trout and Talk to Moana and Merlin
Go to Dazzle Beach and fish in the orange ripples near the Cursed Cave. Before long, you will catch a Grayscale Trout. Something is clearly off about it, since Trout are usually bright and colorful, but now, it's gray!
Your next step is to talk to Moana. When you show her the fish, she reveals that she caught one just like it recently. That only makes the mystery even stranger.
Merlin joins the conversation and wonders if magic is involved. Even though the fish doesn't look very appetizing, he wants you to cook a meal with it. According to Merlin, that might help reveal who's responsible for all these colorless fish.
Cook a Meal With the Grayscale Trout
Merlin also shares the ingredients you need for the recipe:
- 1x Grayscale Trout
- 1x Bell Pepper (Grown from seeds sold at Goofy's Stall in the Forest of Valor)
- 1x Oregano (Picked around the Plaza)
- 1x Butter (Purchased from Chef Remy)
- 1x Lemon (Grown on trees in the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust)
Once you have the ingredients, throw them into a cooking pot and make the meal. After that, open your inventory and interact with it. This will reveal a picture of Ursula doing something suspicious with the statue of the Muses.
Speak with Hercules, and the mystery starts to make a little more sense. It turns out Ursula has been draining inspiration from the valley. It's a strange explanation, but with Ursula involved, nobody is really surprised.
Go to Mystical Cave and Confront Ursula
Next up, you will need to go to the Mystical Cave in the Dazzle Beach biome with Hercules. Inside, you will see that Ursula has blocked the path to keep you from getting too far. Break through the barriers with your pickaxe and keep moving deeper until you reach the bottom of the cave.
When you get there, Hercules confronts Ursula. She casually reveals she’s working on a powerful potion and that it’s being brewed in a cauldron in the Cursed Cave. After saying this, she disappears, but before leaving, she drops something into the water nearby that you will want to get with a fishing rod.
Get the Sea Glass Fragment and Talk to Merlin
Use your fishing rod to pull out whatever Ursula dropped into the water, and you will get a Sea Glass Fragment.
Take the Sea Glass Fragment to Merlin, and he will tell you that you need to craft the Sea Glass Mirror, which you can do so with the steps below.
Craft the Sea Glass Mirror
Here are the materials you need to make the Sea Glass Mirror:
- 1x Sea Glass Fragment
- 2x Garnets (Mined from rock spots in the Plaza, Peaceful Meadow, Plains, and Wastes)
- 5x Glass (Combine x5 Sand and x1 Coal Ore)
After collecting everything, go to a crafting bench and make the Sea Glass Mirror.
Go to the Cursed Cave and Stop Ursula’s Potion
With the Sea Glass Mirror ready, it’s time to return to the Cursed Cave in Dazzle Beach and confront Ursula. Before going in, Hercules shares a clever plan. He will keep Ursula distracted while you focus on using the mirror.
Your job is to move and position the mirror so you can reflect the light back at the cauldron. You’ll need to do this a few times, and the video above will show exactly how you can do this.
Once achieved, the light will break free from the cauldron. Pick it up, then interact with it in your inventory to release it. After that, talk to Ursula about her failed plan to end the quest!
