Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced director Richard Knight has hinted that a popular feature from Assassin's Creed Mirage could be added to the game in a future update. The Animus Sequences of AC Mirage were a post-launch challenge mode that allowed players to replay certain investigations, contracts, and black box missions with a set of limitations applied to make the tasks more difficult. Knight says there is a possibility that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced could see a similar mechanic implemented sometime down the line.
The launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has been a success for the franchise, selling 3.5 million copies in 14 days. As a remake of one of the most popular entries in the franchise, Black Flag Resynced is seen as mostly faithful to the original, despite removing some fan-favorite features like the ability to toggle Edward Kenway's hood in cinematic moments and mission replays. However, the addition of Mirage's challenge mode would give players a new reason to stick with the game even after credits roll.
Assassin’s Cred Black Flag Resynced May Be Getting Mirage's Animus Sequences
In an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor, Knight expressed his desire to bring Asassin's Creed Mirage's Animus Sequences feature over to Black Flag Resynced. This feature would allow AC Black Flag Resynced players to replay missions with new challenges and gameplay twists, since the original mission replay option has been removed from the remake. According to Knight,
"We've looked into this one quite a bit. I can't promise anything on it just because it exists in Mirage, but it doesn't exist in the modern Anvil [Engine]. So, it's like new tech, right? They do have a solution. We do roughly see how it works, but it's going to take time to understand if it's something we can build or how long it would take."

The Animus Sequences challenge mode was not originally part of Assassin's Creed Mirage at launch. Rather, AC Mirage received new free DLC two years after it had originally released which not only added the Valley of Memory content, including this challenge mode for replaying missions in November 2025. With this timeline of release in mind, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced may not see a mode like this added for a few years, which would align with Knight's statement on the matter.
Knight's previous work on the Hitman series plays a key role in his desire to see more flexible black box missions in Assassin's Creed. Being able to tackle assassinations in a variety of different ways makes an Assassin's Creed game far more replayable and gives the series's most iconic feature more depth. Throwing different mission constraints at the player when replaying a black box mission is Assassin's Creed Mirage's way of replicating what the Hitman series does so well, and a remake like AC Black Flag Resynced would also stand to benefit from this same type of remix.
Ubisoft has already confirmed that a New Game Plus mode for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is in development, giving players one method of replaying particular missions. However, it's unclear if the Animus Sequence challenges of Mirage will make their way into this update. Regardless, Assassin's Creed fans still have a lot to look forward to with future Black Flag Resynced updates, and recent leaks for Assassin's Creed Hexe pointing toward the future of the franchise.
