007 First Light is the spy thriller of the year, taking players through a new origin story of everyone’s favorite British spy, James Bond. Those jumping in will undoubtedly be having a blast, especially during the game’s stealth sections. However, when progressing through the game, they will be given a choice of whether they should Bluff, Lure, or Takedown unsuspecting guards and enemies. This guide will explain when and how to do each action.

When to Bluff in 007 First Light

  • How to Bluff: Q on PC, Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox

Bluffs are definitely going to be the least-used mechanic in 007 First Light thanks to their heavy Instinct cost. Bluffs are primarily used in portions where you are trespassing, and will often be used on other NPCs, guards, and enemies.

If you find yourself walking up to an NPC or guard, and they call out to you, you can hit the Bluff button to come up with an explanation, allowing you to walk right past them without getting into a fight or being sent out of the area. It’s important to note, however, that Watchers cannot be bluffed. Also, the Bluff effect will wear off, indicated via the X icon above the NPCs head.

As mentioned earlier, Bluffs cost Instinct, which can be earned over time. Your level of Instinct will be displayed in the Instinct meter on your watch in the bottom-left of the screen, while the cost of Bluffs will be displayed at the bottom when you are able to perform one. Here is a quick rundown of how to get Instinct:

  • Takedowns
  • Eliminating enemies
  • Eavesdropping

When to Lure in 007 First Light

  • How to Lure: V on PC, Up on the D-Pad on PlayStation and Xbox

Luring is another mechanic which should be used sparingly, and is almost exclusively used in stealth playthroughs. To Lure, simply look at the enemy you would like to lure and hit the button you have bound to it. Once done, Bond will call out, and the enemy will often come to check out the situation.

Lures come in handy in the following circumstances:

  1. Used to move one target out of the line of sight of other enemies for a stealthy takedown.
  2. Used to distract one enemy or a group of enemies and move them to another location so you can sneak around.
  3. Bring an enemy just out-of-reach closer for a quick takedown.

Just like Bluffs, Lures use Instinct. Lures may not always be necessary, however, as sabotaging nearby items like radios, generators, and other objects in the world can achieve the same effect, thus allowing you to save Instinct.

When to Takedown in 007 First Light

  • How to Takedown: X on PC, X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation

Takedowns are arguably the most common tactic you will use to take down enemies in 007 First Light and, as mentioned earlier, you can often use them right after luring an enemy to your position. During stealth sections, Takedowns are best used on single targets outside other enemies’ lines of sight. Here is a rundown of how to best use Takedowns in stealth sections:

  1. On single targets that have their backs to you, approach them from behind (often crouched) and close in to perform a Takedown. Similarly, you can perform the same feat on an enemy below you by approaching a ledge and then pressing the Takedown button.
  2. If you are behind cover that is low enough to mantle, you can perform a Cover Takedown. Use a Lure or a Distraction to bring the enemy close if they are too far away, and then wait for the prompt to pop up to perform a Takedown.
  3. If the previous two options are not possible and an enemy is out of reach, you can stagger them by throwing a nearby item (or weapon that is low on ammo) at the enemy, or by staggering them with your Dart Phone. When staggered, approach them and perform a Takedown.

In sections where your cover is blown, during hand-to-hand sequences, or during License to Kill areas, you can also perform a Finisher / Takedown on enemies. To do this, engage in hand-to-hand combat until they are staggered. From here, once the prompt appears, you can perform a takedown to finish them off.
