How to Parry in 007 First Light

  • Default Controls for Parry: Q on PC, Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox

Parrying in 007 First Light is often the go-to means to avoiding damage in hand-to-hand combat on top of side stepping. To perform a Parry, look out for the yellow glow that appears during an enemy's attack. Here, press the Parry Button when you see the yellow glow to block the attack.

Many players may be inclined to mash the Parry Button. However, this does not actually work to block attacks. Instead, take it slow and time a single Parry with the yellow glow of the attack. The window where the yellow glow appears is the time you have to Parry, though this window will depend on both the attack the enemy is using, the enemy type, and the difficulty you are playing on.

A Parry will do one of two things depending on the attack:

  1. Block an incoming attack.
  2. Perform a Counter, throwing the enemy and leaving them vulnerable.

After performing a successful Parry, you can do one of two things depending on the outcome. If the enemy is performing a combo attack, simply continue performing Parries, or throw in a side step if they are too quick to anticipate. If there is a notable opening for an attack, most often following a Counter, follow up with your own strikes to dish out some damage.

To sum up, here are the basic steps to Parrying:

  1. Wait for the yellow glow for an incoming attack.
  2. Press the Parry Button right after spotting the yellow glow.
  3. Anticipate the next attack or follow up with your own attack if there is an opening.

You do not need to be facing an enemy to Parry their attacks. If an enemy is attacking from behind, you can still Parry as normal.

Can you Parry Every Attack in 007 First Light?

While most melee attacks can be Parried in 007 First Light, there are two instances where you will be unable to Parry. The first instance is Charge Attacks, which provide a red glow instead of a yellow one. To avoid Charge Attacks, you will need to side step out of the way, as Parries are useless here.

The other instance is when enemies themselves are Parrying or Blocking. In these instances, since they are not attacking, Parries are useless. Instead, perform a Grab by holding the Grab button on the enemy and follow up with some punches, or press and release Grab to throw them and break their stance.

Here’s a quick rundown on how to perform each action:

  • Side Step: Space + Direction on PC, X on PlayStation, A on Xbox
  • Grab: E on PC, R2 on PlayStation, RT on Xbox
